CWAGMS
Celebrating our 31st year
Cannock Wood and Gentleshaw Musical Society
Known as CWAGMS, was formed in 1977. In those days we numbered about 35 on stage, plus another 10-12 friends and relatives working backstage, front of house etc.
We have been going now for more than 31 year and growing every year.
Our first show, which we performed in our local Village Hall, was a little known musical/operatta called "Dick Turpin".
Our membership now is in the region of about 75-100.
We now perform two complete stage musicals each year; one in May and one in December. We also have an annual travelling variety musical show, which begins in September, and then is performed throughout the year.
We raise a lot of money for charities by perfoming our annual Concerts, "A Village Christmas" and "Music in the Park" at Beaudesert Scout and Guide Camp.
CWAGMS organises an annual weekend away to a seaside town, we perform one concert which entertains local residents and holiday makers helping to support our charities even more!! We have been to Morcambe, Gt Yarmouth, Llandudno, Minehead, Weston-Super-Mare and Lytham St Annes. If you would like to join us please do not hesitate to contact us.
Charities that benefit from us are: Air Ambulance. Child Victims of Crime, RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institute), St. John Ambulance, The Scout and Guide Movement and St Giles Hospice. We also raise funds for churches, halls and many other worthwhile causes.
CWAGMS go Carol Singing each Christmas, and all of the money raised is once again given to local charities. We all dress up in Dickensian Costumes, and look as if we have just stepped off a Christmas Card! If you would like us to sing for you, then please contact us!
2007 was CWAGMS 30 Year Anniversary!
